Tarangire National Park
Tarangire: Elephants & Baobabs
About Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park is a hidden gem in northern Tanzania, often described as the "Land of Giants" for its massive elephant herds and iconic baobab trees. Spanning 2,850 square kilometers, the park is named after the Tarangire River, which serves as the lifeline for wildlife during the dry season. During this time, the park hosts one of the highest concentrations of wildlife outside the Serengeti.
The park is particularly famous for its elephant population, with herds of up to 300 individuals. The ancient baobab trees, some over 1,000 years old, create a surreal and photogenic landscape. Tarangire is also a birdwatcher's paradise, with over 550 species recorded, including the rare yellow-collared lovebird. With fewer crowds than the Serengeti, Tarangire offers a more intimate and exclusive safari experience.
